The Hills Clean Sweep Story
1982 1985 2001 2013
Hills Clean Sweep was established by Brian Forster of Littlehampton in the Adelaide Hills.
Brian retired and moved to to Tasmania. HCS was purchased by Ken Hyde of Blackwood. Below are a few of the newspaper articles regarding Ken and a photo of the van with the great witchy logo.
Ken ran Hills Clean Sweep for over sixteen years.
Hills Clean Sweep was acquired by Drew Pengilly of Eden Hills and later Belair. Drew was able to use the flexible nature of this business to develop his singer/songwriting pursuits (he's the elder brother of Inxs member Kirk Pengilly). Below is an interesting article from the Courier comparing the life of his rock star brother to that of a chimney sweep.
After twelve years of sweeping and window cleaning, Drew relocated to Sydney with his wife.
Jason Tait took over Hills Clean Sweep after twenty years as a secondhand bookseller (Ascot Bookshop). With great changes in the book selling industry, an alternative career was needed so he put away the books and picked up a brush. Jason is enjoying a more physical role, meeting interesting people and more flexible hours. This allows him more time to spend with his family including his young son. Who knows, maybe he may want to join or takeover the Hills Clean Sweep empire in the future.
